Bio
Sara McCarthy trained in Voice Facilitation with Chloë Goodchild, Founder of The Naked Voice Foundation (www.thenakedvoice.com). She undertook Chloe’s 3 year programme to become a Naked Voice Facilitator. In addition, she is qualified as an Introductory Teacher for The Naked Voice. The teachings and practice of The Naked Voice greatly influence all of the work Sara conducts and she is extremely grateful to Chloë for these teachings, which embody a unique approach to voice, music and listening.
She is also influenced by Chloë’s core teaching team: Nicholas Twilley, World Percussionist and Master of Listening, from whom she learned about the embodiment of silence; Masashi Minagawa, Master of Shintaido Movement, which is a martial art form that embodies the healing arts and sound for creative expression(www.shintaido.co.uk). Sara uses Shintaido, combined with western fitness training, in her everyday teaching of Voice work.
Sara is extremely respectful and appreciative of the teachings of Namadeva Thomas Ashley- Farrand, with whom she has had the pleasure to study (www.sanskritmantra.com). His work and approach directly informs her current projects.
Sara has always had a strong interest in medicine, healing and the human body. She has spent some time studying Biodynamic Psychotherapy, looking at the relationship between emotions and the physical body. She is trained in massage and is currently studying Sound Healing.
Sara has a degree in Social Policy Research, which has allowed her to work around medicine in a research capacity in Public Health (Ireland), Confidential Enquiry (London) as well as Social Research at a national level in the UK (Office for National Statistics). She also brings to her business, many years’ experience of working with groups and individuals as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor. In this capacity, specialist populations she has worked with include Stroke Survivors, Older Adults and Children. She also taught group fitness classes, such as Indoor Cycling.
Sara believes expression is the route to health and is a musician at heart. As well as facilitating other people’s voices and music, Sara also facilitates her own. Sara’s music will see more public expression in the coming period.
